Intended use:
For In-vitro diagnostic use. RIDASCREEN® α1-Antitrypsin is an enzyme immunoassay for quantitative determination of human α1-Antitrypsin in stool samples.
General information:
α1-Antitrypsin (A1AT) inhibits PMN elastase, a protease molecule released by white blood cells (leukocytes) to stop inflammation. Consequently, it has an important regulatory effect on inflammatory processes. α1-Antitrypsin regulates protease activity to ensure that the anti-inflammatory action of PMN elastase is limited to the site of inflammation, that is, to ensure that healthy tissues are not attacked. Due to its function as a regulator of protease activity, α1-Antitrypsin can be used as a marker to assess the activity of chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Patients with inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, colon polyps, colon cancer, diverticulitis, celiac disease and severe food allergies have strongly elevated fecal α1-antitrypsin concentrations. The fecal α1-Antitrypsin concentration can also be used as a marker of intestinal protein loss and increased mucosal permeability in patients with a non-intact gastrointestinal tract.
RIDASCREEN® α1-Antitrypsin for a rapid and reliable Detection
• Intestinal protein loss
• Increased mucosa-permeability
• Activation of chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
